Chapter 142 Barack Obama: rejected for the Nobel Peace Prize

Verse 1

The discussions on the choice of Barack Obama as recipient of the Nobel Peace Price continues in this article and several others as well in blogs all over internet.

It is reported in Verdens Gang a big Norwegian news-site that out of the committee's five members a majority of three voted against Obama initially and it was only a few days before the annoucement that the chairman pushed through the nomination with the help of a fellow socialdemocratic party-member.

This will most likely only serve to further the growing and widespread critique against the nomination, a nomination which has also put additional burden on the shoulders of a president already heavily pressured both home and abroad.
The consensus so far seem to be that Obama has said and promised much but produced very little.

Something for which he apparently was given a very prestigious award.

  1. Having read the motivation for the choice of Obama I still think it was a good choice. For the first time in almost a decade the worlds most powerful nation seems intent on cooperating with the global community towards peace, global cooperation, a better climate, a better world if you will. After the reign of GW Bush a clear declaration of the will to cooperate seems like a fair reason for an award. Or any kind of encouragement, for that matter.
    While I agree that concrete action remains to be seen in a lot of areas, I say that without clear intent there can be no action.
    If Obama accomplishes everything he has set out to do, why would he need a prize? I'd guess and hope he'd be content enough with his accomplishments.
    I think the prize is being given too much attention. What's interesting is what the man does, not how many medals he gets.

  2. @Jon Truly a very well thought out motivation and i salute your reasoning. I would still liked to have seen some concrete action before the prize.
    You don't get medals without earning them first.
    I will with that said applaud any chance to praise Obama in the future.

    @Nina I can only agree
